Captain Adorable is my only summer baby, so I am happy to do an outdoor party. I groan inwardly whenever Captain Adorable suggests an indoor venue for his birthday. This party was MONTHs and MONTHs in the making. Captain Adorable loved to randomly start talking about his plans for his birthday party. He changed the theme of the party and kept adding things and people. He wanted to make sure we invited a friend for each of his sisters. At one point he wanted a Ninja Turtle Mario party with four hours of playing video games, an hour of a playdoh ball war, and then running to the local pool and swimming for another three hours. I explained to him that birthday parties do not last that long. So, we brainstormed, we were going to go to a local park and do water balloons, but then we decided to just do it at home in our backyard because the access to water was easier. He was very excited about his splash party and he said it was going to be so much cooler than his friend’s parties.
We had a couple of splashing games and we had a bunch of water balloons.
I tried to organize a water balloon toss so that the balloons didn’t disappear immediately.
I made the kids pose for a picture.
Then Handsome Husband came out and dared the kids to throw water balloons at him.
The kids loved having a common target.
Handsome Husband was pretty much the coolest person at the party.
He got changed into swim clothes and came back outside for round two.
They LOVED throwing the balloons at him.
Look at that happy birthday boy!
Handsome Husband may have been questioning the wisdom of making himself the party target at this point.
This next game was Captain Adorable’s favorite part of the his party.
It took Handsome Husband and I back to the Double Dare game show from our childhood.
I was so glad Handsome Husband came home from work on his lunch break, he really helped to make the party run smoothly.
The kids loved trying to pass the water, I was pretty impressed that they were able to fill the cup at the end of the line.
Captain Adorable is so excited.
I love my silly 8 year old!
Then we had cupcakes made by Baby Dragon. Captain Adorable wanted cupcakes, cookies, donuts and watermelon (for me). He had a lot of fun planning this party.
Then it was present time.
He is always so excited to get money.
My cute birthday boy, he had a great party and just loved being surrounded by his friends.
