Punch Bowl Falls

We have been trying to make the best use of our summer weekends by exploring the beauty of Oregon. The last time we went on a hike to Punch Bowl Falls, Sweetie was in a baby backpack and Baby Dragon was a 2 year old. It was a very stressful hike for me because there are big cliffs that you walk along. I was a wreck, trying to keep a disobedient two year old safe. We had to try this hike again, now that the kids are much more self aware and have a natural sense of self preservation.

We stopped at a spot with water dripping down the rocks to cool off. It was a hot day for a hike.

Baby Dragon is looking so grown up! I showed the girls how to pull their hair through the hole in the back of their hats to keep their hair off their necks. Sweetie kept taking her hat off, though.

Do you see that drop? I can’t believe we took a toddler on this hike!

Captain Adorable ran his hand on that metal cable and ended up getting his finger sliced on it.

He was not very happy. He did not enjoy this hike as much as last weekend. I think the sliced finger was a factor. But food helped him perk up.

Handsome Husband helped Captain Adorable get his hat wet to cool off.

We made it to Punch Bowl Falls! Last time we came there was a log that had fallen and ruined the view. We were happy that it has moved out of the way.

The water was VERY cold.

Captain Adorable built a rock tower.

Sweetie joined Handsome Husband in the cold, cold water.

Captain Adorable fell in the water.

Sweetie and Handsome Husband found an underwater boulder to stand on for this picture.

This is my favorite picture of the day.

This is right before Captain Adorable cut his finger on the soda can. His fingers didn’t fare well on this outing.

Handsome Husband swam out to the log to pose for pictures. Sweetie was beckoning for him to come back.

028-storyboard

I asked Handsome Husband to take this picture. That thing around my neck is a cooler. You soak it in cold water and it swells and holds the water so you have a cool, damp cloth around your neck.

Sweetie wanted to take a nap on this warm rock.

Hiking back to the car.

Look at the drop off! That canyon is deep.

037-storyboard038-storyboard

Captain Adorable had to find a place to see a man about a horse.

039-storyboard

Um, how hilarious is it that Baby Dragon brought LOTION on the hike? And that she took a break to apply it?

040-storyboard041-storyboard

We made it back to the water shower spot. It is amazing how much water perks you up on a hot hike!

042-storyboard043-storyboard044-storyboard

At the very end of the hike we stopped at a spot by the river. Baby Dragon built a rock tower.

045-storyboard

Captain Adorable tried to skip rocks with Handsome Husband.

Handsome Husband found the perfect skipping stone.

Baby Dragon gets in on the skipping action.

Sweetie makes herself into a rock pile.

049-storyboard

This was the highlight of Captain Adorable’s day. He skipped his first rock and it bounced two times! He was so excited.

It was a fun way to end the adventure.
